A variety of dance classes are offered through the Park District. Each class is geared specifically to it’s intended age group and dance style. Dance classes for ages 3-5 focus on listening skills, motor skills, basic dance positions and techniques, and social skills. Dancers age 6 and above are introduced progressively to terminology, refining techniques, incorporating movements into combinations, stage presence, muscle memory, and approaching dance as an art form.
Dancers should wear a leotard and tights (or comfortable exercise wear) to class each day. Shoes are designated by the style of class: ballet utilizes pink leather ballet shoes (no house slippers), tap utilizes black tap shoes, and jazz utilizes jazz shoes. If you have questions regarding what is required call the Park District at (630) 540-4873.
Non-Recital dance classes are offered in the fall before the recital session begins and in the summer after the recital session has ended. The classes are designed to be an introduction into the dance program or a session for dance disciplines that interest the dancer and they would like the opportunity to try it out before signing up for a full recital session.
