The Bartlett Nature Center and Bartlett Parks Foundation would like to thank everyone who came to celebrate winter on the prairie and everyone who helped make this event a success! Over 600 spectators attended, and we couldn’t have done it without the help from our partner, Adopt A Husky, Inc., a non-profit Siberian Husky rescue club.
Adopt A Husky, Inc. provided dog sledding demonstrations, mushing on the snowy trails with a variety of teams of Siberian Huskies! They also provided an indoor program on the Iditarod, “The Last Great Race”, commemorating the heroic effort in 1925 when mushers and their dogs delivered life-saving diphtheria serum to the children of Nome, Alaska as demonstrated in the movie “Balto”.
Cabela’s of Hoffman Estates, provided ice fishing demonstrations and a children’s treasure hunt with metal detectors searching for gold coins.
Costco of Bloomingdale served refreshments of cake and hot chocolate providing a wonderful way to warm up after spending time in the snow.
Target Super Store of Streamwood sponsored the snow painting and brought out the creativity in our younger spectators.
YMCA Camp Pinewood came all the way from Twin Lake, Michigan to experience this family, friendly winter event and to encourage outdoor activities and adventure.
Streamwood High School Key Club volunteers came to help with the activities and to monitor the trails when the dog sleds were mushing.
February 13th proved to be a wonderful way for Suburbanites to experience winter in a whole new way and without you the experience would not be the same. Thank you so much for your involvement and effort in making this a great event. We hope you consider joining us again in 2012.
